Let's rebuild the Bayt al-Mal.
An Islamic money app with everyday and savings accounts held with a licensed partner bank, payments as easy as a tap, and zakat and community finance built in. We're looking for the people who'll build it with us.
Muslims shouldn't have to choose between convenience and conviction.
Most Muslims in the West still use interest-based accounts and credit cards, because there's no real alternative that's as easy as the apps everyone already uses. Every card swipe sends fees to companies far from our communities. And giving is an afterthought, bolted on at the end.
Interest we never chose
Conventional credit cards and banking trap Muslims in contracts built on riba. Many scholars point out that agreeing to pay interest penalties on a credit card—even if paid off monthly—is deeply compromised or haram. We need a pure alternative.
Fees that leave the community
Traditional credit cards take a steep cut—often 2% to 3%+ on every transaction—siphoning wealth from Muslim businesses and masjids. The plan is to work with partner banks to keep transaction fees minimal and far lower than credit cards.
Giving as an afterthought
Zakat and sadaqah are sacred pillars of Islamic economic life, yet existing financial tools treat charitable giving as a detached, cumbersome chore.
“We think it's time someone built the alternative. Properly.”
One app for how Muslims earn, spend, save and give.
Built on two core layers: modern banking through a licensed partner bank, and Shariah-compliant financial tools designed for our community.

Licensed partner bank
Holds deposits, provides regulated rails and protection
We build the experience, the Shariah framework and the community. A licensed partner bank holds the money. This is the same model the best-known modern money apps use.
Halal by design, not 'halal-friendly'.
We don’t slap a sticker onto conventional interest-based infrastructure. Every product is built from first principles of Islamic jurisprudence.
No riba
No interest charged or paid. Anywhere. Many scholars consider standard credit cards problematic or haram because the contract obligates paying interest on late balances. Baitulmaal is built strictly on debit and asset-backed rails.
Real profit-sharing
Risk and reward shared fairly, through real ventures.
Ethical screening
No alcohol, gambling, conventional finance or other prohibited industries.
Independent oversight
A Shariah advisory board reviews every product, and its guidance is published openly.
“The Bayt al-Mal held the community's wealth in trust. We're building it again, for the way we live now.”

Frequently asked questions
Honest answers about where we are, how the licensed partner bank model works, and how to get involved.
Is Baitulmaal live?
Not yet. We're assembling the team and partners to build it. Join us and you'll help decide what launches first.
Is Baitulmaal a bank?
No. The plan is for accounts to be held with a licensed partner bank, while Baitulmaal builds the app, the Shariah framework and the community layer. That's how most modern money apps work.
How can savings be halal without interest?
Through profit-sharing (mudarabah): savings go into screened, halal ventures and the profits are shared, so risk and reward are shared fairly.
Can my savings give to charity automatically?
That's the idea. You'd choose a percentage of your yearly savings earnings to donate (for example 10%) and it goes to causes you pick, while the rest stays invested and compounds. Try the giving calculator above to see how your giving and wealth could grow together. It's an illustration, not a promise of returns.
Why not a credit card? Are conventional credit cards problematic?
Conventional credit cards are built around interest (riba). Even if you pay off your balance every month, the contract itself requires agreeing to interest penalties on late balances, which many Islamic scholars consider impermissible (haram). In addition, credit card networks charge merchants and masjids 2% to 4% on every transaction. Baitulmaal is built on virtual debit and direct payment rails with a licensed partner bank: no interest, no debt traps, and we want to keep per-transaction fees as close to zero as possible. While the final fee schedule depends on our partner bank, the goal is to charge significantly less per transaction than traditional credit cards, keeping more wealth in the community.
Is this paid work or volunteering?
It's strictly volunteer right now. We're in the earliest conceptual and founding stage without funding, building this out of conviction and dedication to the Ummah. If you want to contribute your time and skills to help bring this vision to life from the ground up, we'd love to have you on board.
I'm a masjid or business. What would a pilot involve?
Early access for your community, a direct say in the features, and optional waqf round-ups directed to your masjid. Tell us about yourself in the form.
Are you raising money through this page?
No. This page is about finding the right people and partners.
The Bayt al-Mal was built by a community. So is this.
